CannaCraft, Inc., a large-scale cannabis manufacturer based in California, announced the launch of its newest brand, Farmer & The Felon; a conscientious cannabis brand aimed at promoting sustainability and social justice. Farmer & The Felon’s moniker is a nod to CannaCraft’s founders, and the contrasting titles commonly held by industry pioneers as a result of conflicting federal and state laws. The line features quality cannabis flower and pre-rolls at an affordable price with a portion of profits going to support the Last Prisoner Project, a non-profit dedicated to bringing restorative justice to the cannabis industry.
"The branding and the underlying cause stand as a reminder that a multi billion-dollar legal industry is forming while over 40,000 people in the U.S. remain incarcerated for nonviolent cannabis offenses," said Dennis Hunter, CannaCraft co-founder. "For every successful cannabis entrepreneur in the legal market, there are hundreds shut out of the industry because of the resounding harm caused by the failed war on drugs."
Dennis Hunter, a two-time recipient of High Times annual "100-Most Influential People in Cannabis" award and a convicted cannabis felon, and Ned Fussell, one of the largest organic cannabis cultivators in California, co-founded CannaCraft in 2014. Since then, CannaCraft has grown into one of the largest cannabis companies in the world, manufacturing two of the top-10 best-selling brands in California, AbsoluteXtracts and Care by Design (BDS Analytics, 2019).
The title of Farmer is proudly held by both Ned and Dennis, whose sophisticated cultivation sites and decades of cannabis knowledge played a key role in CannaCraft’s early success. The title of Felon was earned by Hunter in 1998, when federal agents raided his cultivation site in Humboldt County, discovering approximately 7000 plants, the largest cannabis bust in California at the time. After 4.5 years on the run, over 6 years in federal prison, Dennis was released and went on to channel his knowledge of cannabis into the creation of ancillary cannabis products such as soil nutrients and cultivation supplies. This eventually led to Dennis’ chance encounter with a key customer, Ned Fussell.
In addition to being successful cannabis entrepreneurs, both Hunter and Fussell are active philanthropists. Hunter is a founding advisory board member of the Last Prisoner Project, a non-profit organization which endeavors to keep fighting until every non-violent cannabis prisoner is released. Fussell is a core member of OSC2, an organization that works to bring us One Step Closer to an Organic Sustainable Community.
"Farmer & The Felon embodies the struggle and perseverance that paved the way for the newly legal cannabis marketplace while contributing to a positive future," said Ned Fussell, CannaCraft co-founder. "We know that in the growth of the economic opportunities [within this industry], that many of the same people that were most harmed by the war on drugs have been left behind. We see this brand as an extension of our commitment to contribute to much needed healing and we know there is still much more to be done."
The Farmer & The Felon product line features popular flower strains such as Shark Shock, Mimosa, Lemongrass, Motorbreath, Vanilla Frosting and more in ⅛ oz, ¼ oz and ½ oz bags and 1 gram prerolls. The line will be available for purchase through licensed California cannabis retailers starting March 2020.
