Our Earth Day Promise

Unless you’ve been living in a cave without any kind of outside connection to the world, you’ve seen the heartbreaking images of our oceans full of plastic. (Sidebar questions: Why were you living in a cave? What did you eat? Did you fight a bear?) We’re finally woke to the dangers of being a society reliant on single-use plastic, and while we can walk around with reusable straws, ask grocery stores to not use plastic bags, and fill our stainless steel water bottles, it’s time for companies to take responsibility and follow suit.

As a company with roots in Northern California (i.e., the birthplace of hippies), we were obviously concerned about the impact of California’s new cannabis regulations on our beautiful state. Those regulations mandate that cannabis goods must be packaged in resealable, child-resistant packaging, which is typically made of plastic. Annually, CannaCraft brands (including ABX and Care By Design) produce about two million vape cartridges which means that we were looking at producing millions of plastic, child-resistant tubes that would end up in our landfills and beaches.

We decided that was unacceptable.

So, with the idea of all that waste weighing on our shoulders, we kept innovating and found a solution. By adding an additional step to the manufacturing process, we’re now able to make vape cartridges that are inherently child resistant and don’t require additional CR packaging.

In addition to being reliable and sleek, our new vape cartridges have been certified as child-resistant under the requirements of the Poison Prevention Packaging Act.

We’re not the only ones who are thrilled about this. In a recent letter to CannaCraft, the CA Department of Public Health wrote:

"On behalf of our office, I would like to commend you for your diligence in adhering to both the letter and spirit of the law as you continue to pursue innovations in this emerging market... Because the cartridge model that you are using is now tested and certified as child resistant, child-resistant packaging does not need to be replicated on additional layers of packaging that surround the cartridge."

So, how much plastic, exactly, are we cutting from our manufacturing process?

If you stacked one year's worth of child-resistant vape cartridge packaging, that stack would be 916,666 feet tall -- or 30 times taller than Mount Everest (which is 29,000 ft). That's a heck of a lot of waste we're eliminating.

Our promise to you is that we’ll never stop innovating; whether that means bringing you premium cannabis products or reducing our footprint wherever possible. It’s just what we do best.
